On the evening of May 6 to 8, A Dream of Red Mansions, an original ethnic dance drama by Jiangsu Grand Theater and a project funded by Jiangsu Art Foundation 2022, was performed in Nanjing.



The national dance drama "A Dream of Red Mansions" presents the main plot of Cao Xueqin's famous novel "A Dream of Red Mansions" in the form of dance. This performance has been polished and upgraded on the original basis, which not only maintains the traditional cultural connotation, but also integrates the contemporary spirit and interest. The whole dance drama is more full, showing the "A Dream of Red Mansions" twelve Jinchai more acme more fullness of vitality.


Visually, using the aesthetic characteristics of the Qing Dynasty, the stage is laid out with strong colors, showing the dignified and elegant world of Grand View Garden. In the sense of hearing, music is like the sound of gold, rich in layers, flowing. On THE PERFORMANCE, WITH THE help OF screen, chair, sedan chair and other elegant props, lead to BAOyu and DAIYU, BAOchai encounter, know each other, phase away.


In stage design, the tunnel composition formed by the layered curtains increases the depth of the stage, and also creates a visual level of "virtual" and "real". The cleverly designed light and shadow effects not only echo the plot, but also extend the stage space, allowing the audience to get an immersive experience. The lighting performance is performed with high-power cutting lights such as Yi FINE 1800, which visualizes abstract emotions and images, presenting the beauty and shock of A Dream of Red Chamber. The dance drama without a word of dialogue can also convey the excitement and sadness in A Dream of Red Chamber vividly through the language of dance and light and shadow.
