At 8:00 pm on February 4, 2022, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games officially opened at the Bird's Nest Stadium.
The concept of the opening ceremony is "less people but not empty, ethereal and romantic". To achieve this goal, lighting played an important role.
The lighting plan incorporated the abstract art of Chinese art with the figurative art of Western art. The whole lighting design is very clean, fully reflecting the romance and flawless whiteness of snow and ice. Mr. Sha Xiaolan introduced, "In the cold winter, we hope to bring warmth to the world with the art of light and shadow."
In addition there are many highlights in the lighting design. For example, the appearance of the five Olympic rings used the interaction of images and lasers; the doves of peace part used high-tech light and shadow effects, as well as the interaction of LED screens to create a romantic effect.
The realization of the art of light and shadow, depends on the technical progress of the lighting equipment.
In 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games, 80% of the lighting equipment from abroad, but in this opening ceremony, the whole field used 100% of the lighting equipment which are made in China.
