FINE ART Supports the Yu Opera Lion's Roar at the 11th Shaanxi Provincial Arts Festival
Carrying forward the cultural lineage of traditional Chinese opera, new voices pay tribute to the sages. On the evening of September 16, the original Yu Opera Lion's Roar, produced by the Xi'an Yu Opera Theatre, appeared at the 11th Shaanxi Provincial Arts Festival, brilliantly staged at the Shanyang County Workers' Cultural Palace Grand Theatre. It competed for the Shaanxi Wenhua Award, interpreting patriotism through the new charm of traditional opera.
The original modern Yu Opera Lion's Roar is a 2026 National Arts Fund large-scale stage drama grant project, meticulously created by Xi'an Yu Opera Theatre Co., Ltd. Based on the real life of Mr. Fan Cuiting, known as the "Father of Modern Yu Opera," the production looks back on the tumultuous history of the Lion's Roar Troupe's westward migration during the war and its rooting in Chang'an, continuing the long-standing theatrical and cultural lineage between Henan and Shaanxi. With powerful Yu Opera melodies, the play praises the lofty spirit of the older generation of opera predecessors who preserved their art in adversity and served the country with loyal hearts. It deeply explores the core of red literary and artistic spirit, integrating ideological depth, artistic quality, and entertainment value, and delivers a substantial answer to the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional opera in the new era.
In this epic presentation of the wartime opera world, two professional lighting fixtures from FINE ART used precise light and shadow to paint the backdrop of the times for the Lion's Roar Troupe's westward migration. The FINE 1700LH BSWF four-in-one framing light served as the mainstay. With an effective range of up to 100 meters and outstanding light quality with Ra and R9 both reaching 95, it accurately reproduced the desolate texture of the war-torn era and the rich charm of traditional opera costumes. One rotating gobo wheel with 6 gobos, one fixed gobo wheel with 9 gobos plus white, and 12 color filters interweave to create, as the plot unfolds, the arduous journey of the westward migration and the steadfast watch of putting down roots in Chang'an. A full framing system rotatable ±90° produces sharp, distortion-free cut edges, precisely framing Fan Cuiting's resolute figure preserving his art in adversity and the moving moments of the opera predecessors serving the country with loyal hearts.
The FINE 400CL7 professional LED cyclorama and floor light employs a 7-color full-spectrum optical design, continuously outputting white light with color temperatures from 2700K to 10,000K, with Ra and R9 both maintained above 90 and light output exceeding 16,000 lm. Its 16-bit high-precision dimming makes color mixing more accurate and dimming more delicate. From the vast backdrop of the wartime westward migration to the spotlight at the center of the stage, the cyclorama and floor light builds a well-layered background light curtain for the entire production with its broad color gamut, making the powerful vocal style of Yu Opera even more stirring and moving in light and shadow, and allowing the spirit of "Lion's Roar" to resonate through every aria.
As the melodies of Yu Opera echo for a long time at the southern foot of the Qinling Mountains, FINE ART uses light as a brush, not only illuminating the tumultuous past of the Lion's Roar Troupe's westward migration during the war, but also reflecting the lofty spirit of the older generation of opera predecessors who preserved their art in adversity and served the country with loyal hearts.
