The drama follows the spiritual integrity and spiritual journey of Cheng Xiuying, an embroidery master in Suzhou Taihu Lake, who loves Suzhou embroidery all her life. It deduces the story of embroidery women represented by Cheng Xiuying who stick to traditional culture and develop artistic treasures in the changing times. It also reflects the persistent original aspiration of Suzhou embroidery women who work hard and strive to achieve common prosperity. It reflects the continuous development of Suzhou Embroidery under the care of the government, from individual scattered manual work to large-scale cluster management, and witnesses the great changes and achievements made since the reform and opening up of Suzhou.
"Embroidery Girl" is a play performed in the 4th China Suzhou Jiangnan Culture and Art International Tourism Festival, and also participated in the 4th Suzhou City "Wenhua Award". It has been selected as the 2022 annual funded project of Jiangsu Art Fund.
Su Opera originated in Suzhou and is known as the "mother of the beach spring". It has a history of more than 300 years and is one of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. Together with Kunqu Opera and Suzhou Pingtan Opera, it is called the "three flowers" of Suzhou art circle.
