In golden autumn October, the grand occasion of the opera world once again gathers in the river city. From October 15 to November 5, 2026, the 11th China Peking Opera Festival is being held in Wuhan, Hubei. This year's China Peking Opera Festival is hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Hubei Provincial People's Government, and organized by the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Wuhan Municipal People's Government. At the opening ceremony, Ju Zhaohui, Member of the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department; Chen Ping, Vice Governor of the Hubei Provincial People's Government; Ma Xiaolong, Director of the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Xiong Zhengyu, Deputy Secretary of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of the Wuhan Municipal People's Government; and Ke Ke, Party Secretary and Director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, jointly inaugurated the Peking Opera Festival.

As the opening production of this year's festival, the Peking opera *Hanyang Made*, produced by the Hubei Provincial Peking Opera Theatre, was the first to meet the audience. The opera takes as its main thread the founding of the Hubei Arsenal by Zhang Zhidong, the late-Qing Viceroy of Huguang, reflecting the "birth history of a rifle" as a mirror of a nation's century-long journey from awakening in peril to forging ahead through innovation. The production is directed by renowned director Guo Xiaonan and led by National First-Class Actor Yin Zhangxu. With solid skills from three generations of performers, both in singing and acrobatics, it showcases the vibrant, well-inherited artistry of the Hubei Provincial Peking Opera Theatre. Unlike many historical dramas, *Hanyang Made* does not stop at recounting historical facts. Instead, it focuses on the spiritual struggles and unyielding breakthroughs of late-Qing officials and modern industrial workers under technological blockade and internal and external pressures, elevating the "chase for material progress" to a "spiritual awakening" that resonates across time with today's spirit of independent innovation and technological self-reliance.

In terms of stage presentation, the production upholds the traditional Chinese aesthetic principle of "the interplay of the virtual and the real." With multi-layered, symbolic scenery installations combined with multimedia projection technology, it breaks the physical limitations of the traditional stage and places different times and spaces within the same dramatic context. Zhang Zhidong's late-night anxieties over establishing the arsenal overlap with the pressures from the court within the same context. Through the interweaving of light and shadow, the audience gazes from a god's-eye view at the dislocation between the individual and the era, and amid the compassion of knowing the historical outcome, develops deep empathy for the protagonist's fate.

As an opening masterpiece with extremely high demands in both visual and emotional terms, this production imposes comprehensive requirements on stage lighting fixtures in terms of light quality, color, framing precision, and noise performance. Multiple FINE ART fixtures participated in the stage presentation of this opening performance, each serving different lighting needs with its own technical characteristics.

The FINE 1700CF BSWF is an LED moving head light developed by FINE ART for the high-end performance market, integrating beam, wash, gobo, and framing functions. It has an effective range of up to 100m, with color rendering indices Ra and R9 both reaching 95. Its patented cooling system maintains full-power operation at room temperature without derating, with operating noise below 45dB. The fixture features a built-in second-generation color standard, delivering good color consistency and a wide color gamut. It is equipped with 12 color filters, 1 rotating gobo wheel, 1 fixed gobo wheel, 1 dynamic effect wheel, and a full framing system rotatable ±90°. With sharp, distortion-free cut edges, it meets the complex stage image-shaping needs of large theatres.

The FINE 4019 WASH PLUS is a professional high-power LED moving head wash light. It adopts an all-new optical design that maintains high optical efficiency while ensuring uniform color mixing and soft effects. At narrow angles, it delivers 30,000 lux at 6 meters, and its 4°–60° zoom range adapts to lighting scenarios at different distances. The fixture offers smooth, delicate dimming with no noticeable flicker when starting at low brightness, meeting the high dimming standards of theatrical performances. Its linearly adjustable color temperature from 2500K to 8000K maintains relatively stable brightness as color temperature changes, with Ra and R9 both reaching 90 or above. The hidden folding hook design also reduces the operational difficulty of on-site hanging installation.

The FINE 1700L WASH PERF is equipped with a high-efficiency light engine, Ra ≥ 90, a light source design life of up to 20,000 hours, and a total luminous flux output of over 50,000 lm. With excellent heat dissipation design and intelligent fan control technology, its operating noise performance improves at lower ambient temperatures. It also features a patented cooling system that allows continuous full-power operation at room temperature without derating. The fixture has a built-in second-generation color standard that ensures output colors close to those of gas discharge light source fixtures. It is equipped with 2 color wheels each with 6 colors plus white, supports CMY infinite color mixing and CTO linear color temperature adjustment, and features a framing system rotatable ±90°, making it suitable for theatres, concert halls, and other performance scenarios with high noise requirements.

It is understood that during the festival, there will be a total of 20 major productions, 5 small-theatre Peking operas, 4 short Peking opera plays, and multiple special performances, collectively presenting the thriving scene of China's Peking opera development in recent years.

Judging from the stage presentation of the opening masterpiece *Hanyang Made*, the contemporary expression of historical Peking opera relies not only on the creativity of the playwright, director, and actors but also on the support of stage technology. In golden autumn in the river city, the show begins; on stage, light and shadow together with singing, recitation, acting, and acrobatics constitute the contemporary expression of Peking opera art, allowing traditional opera to continue growing on the stage of the new era.
