FINE ART Witnesses the Meticulous Upgrade of Modern Qin Opera On the Banks of the Nanluo River with Light and Shadow
On July 12, the polished and upgraded version of the large‑scale modern Qin opera On the Banks of the Nanluo River, meticulously created by the Luonan County Troupe, was brilliantly staged at the Shangluo Cultural and Arts Centre Grand Theatre. As a key production for the 11th Shaanxi Provincial Art Festival and a 2025 Shaanxi Provincial Art Creation Grant project, the opera fully demonstrates the fruitful achievements of Shangluo's literary and artistic creation with its profound historical heritage, exquisite artistic presentation, and distinct regional characteristics.
Centered on the Luo family's century‑old tofu workshop as a spiritual vessel, the opera spans more than eighty years of changing times, chronicling the craftsmanship perseverance and spiritual legacy of three generations of the Luo family. During the War of Liberation, the tofu workshop served as an underground contact station; Luo's mother sacrificed her life to protect revolutionary comrades, and the young Luo Fulai, carrying her faith, joined the revolution. In the socialist construction period, Luo Fulai returned to his hometown to participate in the construction of the Luohui Canal, benefiting his neighbours through practical dedication. In the new era, the younger generation carries forward the tofu‑making skills, innovates industrial development models, and allows the spirit of simplicity, perseverance, and selfless dedication to continue along the banks of the Nanluo River from generation to generation. Rooted in the essence of Qin opera and grounded in real rural life, the production carries out systematic innovations in narrative structure, stylized presentation, and vocal music, vividly portraying the collective struggle of the people of Luonan who follow the Party, overcome difficulties, and build their homeland.
